Loto-Québec has just launched the first-ever lottery ticket printed on entirely recycled materials. With its Évasion scratch ticket, it becomes the first lottery corporation in the world to implement an environmental initiative of this kind.

Post-consumer recycled content is an offshoot of the circular economy. It’s designed with recycled materials that have served their primary purpose and can be recycled once again. In fact, many of Loto-Québec’s products are made in part with post-consumer products.

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, Loto-Québec even went one step further—by creating a scratch ticket with the smallest environmental footprint in the industry. The Corporation also intends to launch other green products in coming months, including the Code secret scratch ticket, also made from 100% recycled materials.

Furthermore, all Loto-Québec lottery tickets are recyclable.

Green products

In creating scratch tickets on a greener medium, Loto-Québec wanted to further reduce its environmental footprint by promoting the local economy. To do so, the Corporation called on two partners based in Québec.

The games are produced with environmentally friendly, water-based inks at Scientific Games’ highly secure Montréal instant game manufacturing facility. As for the recycled materials, it is produced by Rolland, an eco-friendly printing paper supplier located in Saint-Jérôme.

A reminder that the majority of Loto-Québec scratch tickets are FSC-certified. FSC labels deliver a guarantee to consumers that the products they buy support responsible forest management, and that the products are handled correctly at every stage of production – from forest to shelf.
